Mindfront Health Launches New Online FBT Workshop Series

After nearly half a year of preparation, Mindfront Health’s new online BT workshop series went debut on 26th October with the support of Shanghai Mental Health Center.

This workshop focuses on family-based therapy (FBT) for adolescent eating disorders, which is currently the first-line therapy for adolescent anorexia in the world. Adhering to the original intention of helping psychiatric professionals to master FBT treatment tools and go deep into the theory and practice of FBT, Mindfront Health hopes to empower professionals through the seven-day training to bring cutting-edge, evidence-based therapy to patients and families in China.

Dr. Chen Jue, Head of Psychosomatic Medicine – Eating Disorder Collaborative Study Group, China Medicine Association, gave an opening speech and systematically sort out the diagnosis and treatment framework for eating disorders and related treatments.

Dr. Kim Hurst, Senior Psychologist and ex-Executive Committee (Treasurer) for the Australian & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders (ANZAED) who specializes in child and adolescent and young adult eating disorders was the tutor of the whole workshop. She led the audiences into the theoretical development, evidence-based foundation, three stages and treatment arrangements of FBT.

In addition to a solid and systematic theoretical foundation, the workshop also disassembled the specific practical operation step by step, accompanied by a practical DEMO video demonstration. The audience was split into groups, sharing and discussing the cases, and had a circular questioning practice guided by the tutor.

Two hours passed in a flash. With rich and detailed content and interactive practical exercises, the study continued. Students and teaching assistants actively exchange ideas in online chatting room.

The success of the new workshop convinces us that every coming Wednesday will be amazing with the workshop series. The well-designed course, with real-time simultaneous interpretation and after-school exercises, will break down the language barriers and benefit a lot for those who want to pursuit a career in mental health field.

In the past two years, the “Mindfront Academy” has launched two online workshops on the themes of “group therapy” and “teenage DBT”, which have won wide acclaim for their structured and practical content. In the future, the team will present more online workshops from theory to practical operation.
