It's that time of the year again where we get hairy – with purpose! This November, Aurora Healthcare Australia is proud to support “Movember” to help raise awareness for men’s mental health – and hopefully help save more lives from suicide.
The “Movember” movement, a global campaign started in 2003 in Australia, aims at raising money, making a difference in mental health suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Not only is it loads of fun – it also brings people together for a great cause.
We are currently losing one man every minute of the day to suicide across the world – 60 men every hour. It’s a cause close to our hearts that is worth talking about and doing everything we can to reduce this number and bring back mental health for all.
Perinatal Mental Health Week also falls in November (6th to 12th November), reminding us to create understanding, reduce stigma and provide education and support for new parents in this most vulnerable time.
Belmont Private Hospital and The Brisbane Centre for Postnatal Disorders (BCPND) partner this year to get more people involved and help them to find the right support for their loved ones, so that they can struggle less during the challenging transition into parenthood.
Data show that 1 in 5 mums and 1 in 10 dads will experience depression or anxiety, and that will infect their babies and families. Perinatal Mental Health Week was created in 2005 to help the community and health professionals to better understand perinatal mental health, and it has become a powerful, national collaboration of 45 organisations united to support new parents and families.
Overall, “People First, People Always” is not only the mission of Aurora Healthcare, but also what we are devoted to doing every day. By caring for and helping different groups of people, we aim to bring mental health support and a better life for all.
